NEW YORK CITY: May 7, 2021 — Zach Iscol is running for NYC Comptroller to hold City government accountable and serve the people, not the special interests or politicians.
Yesterday, Zach made the following policy announcement:
“Late last month, NYC had another bloody weekend with 15 separate shootings and at least 50 victims. 2021 is shaping up to be a very violent year in NYC.
Illegal guns transported from from the South, also known as the “Iron Pipeline”, are fueling the violent shootings on our streets. In November, Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez demonstrated the urgency of this work when he announced the indictment of a 3-man gun trafficking ring that allegedly purchased dozens of firearms in the South and transported them to the City for sale to commit crime.
Recently, Borough President Eric Adams announced a policy calling for a crackdown on the Iron Pipeline and enhanced coordination on gun trafficking between city, state and federal agencies. I wholeheartedly support and endorse this policy as we need to address gun violence and the gun pipeline to save our kids and protect our communities. Our federal and state leaders need to heed that call and coordinate with the City now before the deadly toll turns even more tragic.
As Comptroller I will support policies and strategies, like the one Eric Adams is proposing, which focus on choking gun trafficking routes that lead from other states to the most vulnerable New York City communities. My office will focus will partner with the next mayoral administration just as much on finding solutions to the social drivers of gun violence, including increased investments in youth development, job training and already-proven community-based interventions in marginalized neighborhoods.”
